The Laundry Transformation Initiative is a collaborative platform working to transform laundry
 practices across Asia and the Pacific and beyond.

By generating evidence, fostering innovation, building partnerships,
 advance solutions, and catalyze investments, the initiative aims to improve
 water security, health, livelihoods, gender equality, environmental
 sustainability, and quality of life.

Led by the Asian Development Bank and partners, the initiative
 helps turn an everyday activity into an opportunity for
 sustainable development.

A single load of synthetic clothing can release over 700,000 microfibers; textile fibers account for roughly 35% of microplastics entering the sea.

Despite the electric washing machine's invention in 1908 and a $177 billion global laundry care industry, little has changed in the last 110 years.

Laundry remains under-served by modern infrastructure, markets, and private investors.

To accelerate action and scale impact, ADB and a group of Founding Partners are exploring the establishment of the Washline Coalition, a collaborative platform that brings together governments, development partners, researchers, civil society, innovators, utilities, and the private sector to align efforts, share knowledge, mobilize resources, and drive meaningful change.
