Self-supply of water in Asia and the Pacific: Country Profiles

To increase awareness and understanding of self-supply of water in Asia and the Pacific, the UTS Institute for Sustainable Futures has partnered with UNICEF EAPRO and UNICEF ROSA to develop 21 country profiles. The following country profiles present the prevalence of self-supply, spatial and temporal trends, service levels including water quality and availability, equity dimensions, and policy aspects of
self-supply in each country.

UN-Water Global Analysis and Assessment of Sanitation and Drinking-Water (GLAAS) Data Portal

GLAAS provides policy- and decision-makers at all levels with reliable, easily accessible, comprehensive data on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) systems, including on governance, monitoring, human resources and finance. GLAAS monitors elements of WASH systems that are required to sustain and extend WASH services and systems to all, and especially to the most vulnerable population groups.

Human-Centered Design for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (HCD for WASH)

In WASH, HCD has been used to design new technologies, service delivery models, behavior change strategies, marketing materials and even courses and training materials. HCD promotes deep engagement with users to nurture innovative, sustainable and scalable solutions. The HCDforWASH platform provides tools and resources for all stages of HCD project development: discovery, creation, delivery.

Towards Systemic Change in Urban Sanitation

This working paper outlines a 'whole-system approach' to urban sanitation by shifting the focus from building infrastructure or a project-driven implementation approach to providing and maintaining equitable and environmentally friendly services, championed and supported by the government and with sufficient resources allocated to ensure sustainability. The paper uses a step by-step approach to unravel and tackle the very complex circumstances surrounding the need for sanitation in urban areas, particularly in densely populated areas and to the less affluent sectors of society.

Guidelines on Sanitation and Health

WHO Guidelines on Sanitation and Health summarize the evidence on the effectiveness of a range of sanitation interventions and provide a framework for health-protecting sanitation, including policy and governance measures, implementation of sanitation technologies, systems and behavioral interventions, risk-based management, and monitoring approaches. The guidelines articulate the role of the health sector in maximizing the health impact of sanitation interventions.

City Service Delivery Assessment for Citywide Inclusive Sanitation - Tool and User Guide

The City Service Delivery Assessment (CSDA) complements the Shit Flow Diagrams to assess why the situation is as it is. It provides a process for working with stakeholders to assess the enabling environment for citywide inclusive sanitation and to present the results in a simple and accessible way. The CSDA User Guide explains how the CSDA tool works and provides recommendations on how to use it with stakeholders.

City-Wide Inclusive Sanitation Services Assessment and Planning (CWIS SAP) Tool

The CWIS SAP tool helps decision-makers compare the outcomes of different sanitation interventions or investments. The tool analyzes and illustrates how each proposed intervention is likely to affect the equity, financial sustainability and safety of sanitation services in an urban area.
